CASE STUDY: CAPACITY BUILDING

Coaching talent to elevate the full potential of advocacy

Challenge

We were engaged to help coach an advocacy functional leader who was working with company leadership that did not understand the full value of patient advocacy to the organization’s clinical programs and overall business success.

Solution

As part of our coaching structure, we met weekly to review program ideas for strategic relevance. One strategically important idea – to establish a global patient advocacy council to inform key business decisions – was met with negativity when presented to the executive leadership team. To counter this, we worked closely with our client to determine a path forward, including the creation of a compelling narrative and value proposition as well as identification of internal allies to support the council’s creation. This required tremendous effort and collaboration with legal and compliance to ensure GDPR compliance, alignment with internal working groups, and constant messaging to leadership to inform, engage, and change minds.

Impact

When the standing advisory council was launched, the response from the council members and internal functional partners was overwhelmingly positive. In its first meeting with the council, the client found out that their company was the first in a very dynamic space to create such an opportunity, and in doing so, differentiated itself from its many industry competitors.
